GA vs. Fla: Get Ready, It’s Gonna Be A Good Weekend

I would like to take back my comments from last week about USC being “Sick Nasty”. Yes, they are a team filled with NFL caliber players and are exciting to watch, but last night we saw an early season loss that may keep USC out of the National Championship. I don’t know whether to think if USC is overrated, if OSU is really that bad, or if Oregen State is a legit team and the PAC-10 isn’t that bad?
USC is overrated as a team. They have lots of talent and athletes at every position, but as we saw last night they could not put it together for a full game. OSU might be even worse then expected and Oregon State might be a little better then we thought. Still, the PAC-10 is weak. This loss hurts USC more than a conference loss would hurt Georgia, Florida, or LSU in the SEC. This loss helps a team like UGA more than just the fact they will jump USC in the polls, but if UGA is handed a loss by one of the opponents on their brutal schedule, UGA has a much better chance of being a one loss team in Miami since their loss would most likely be from a top 10 team, and USC’s loss would be to a weak PAC-10 team. read all »

I read an interesting article today on Foxsports.com Article about USC blowing a chance to play for the national title again this year. It raised a lot of valid points about would USC really deserve it and a bunch of what if scenarios. Obviously I am biased towards UGA, but this was a good article that fairly represented all the top 5 teams.
The article got me thinking about how UGA has dropped in the polls the past two weeks because we did not blow teams out by 50 or 60 points. The question that I raise is, will USC be held to this same standard? Right now the PAC-10 is looking pretty shitty. They are 0-4 against the Moutain West Conference (BYU beat UCLA 59-0). The other ranked teams in the conference were all upset this past week (Cal by Maryland, Oregon by Purdue, and Arizona State by UNLV). This does not bode well for the conference in general and significally decreases the toughness of USC’s schedule. Out of conference they still have to play Notre Dame who is garbage. Also, lets think about the fact that OSU might catch another loss or two against Wisconsin, Penn State, or Illinois. This would mean that the USC win over OSU wouldn’t really mean that much anymore. Now you are looking at a very good USC team not playing that strong of schedule when BCS time comes, which would hurt them. So when USC is playing these weak PAC-10 teams every week, what if they only beat Stanford 14-7? Are they going to drop in the polls like UGA did after they went on the road in the SEC and beat South Carolina 14-7? In my opion it is a lot worse to only beat Stanford by that score then to beat South Carolina by that score.
It will be interesting to see how the voters would handle a situation like that. Plus, what if UGA is playing a team like Alabama, Auburn, LSU or Florida during that same week and UGA comes out and wins by 2 touchdowns? Does that mean we move up? This might be yet another year of the media sucking Southern Cal’s dick.
This whole situation does not even put into perspective if USC were to slip up and lose a game. USC has only gone undefeated once under Coach Carrol, so as a Georgia fan, I hope he loses at least one this year. This could possibly mean that if USC loses one game, they would be out of the National Championship. Even if UGA and Oklahoma both have a loss, it seams to me that those two teams would deserve it over USC in that situation because of the tougher conferences.
Another thing to consider when showing the weakness of the PAC-10 is the UGA-ASU game this weekend. I don’t see this happening, but what if UGA blows out ASU and then ASU plays USC very close? Would this show anything? Just something to think about and hopefully give a little extra motivation for UGA to put up some points this weekend.
